This peaceful fish is ideal for a community tank. The
aquarium should be set up with a lot of driftwood and roots
that form hiding places. Older individuals are sometimes
aggressive and territorial towards other fishes of this
family. When they are mature the male has cheek bristles on
its forehead, while the female has a row of short, thin
tentacles. They like a good aeration. They feed mostly on algae and plants. Feeding with vegetables is necessary. Breeding is not difficult. The eggs are laid in a cave. The male guards the eggs. The fry hatch after 5 days and after two weeks the youngsters are swimming free. Then you can feed them fine vegetable food. |
