Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Paraguay, Brazil
Length : 8 cm - 3"
Min.length aquarium : 80 cm - 30"
English name : Umbrella Dwarf Cichlid
Peaceful dwarfcichlid that can be kept in a community aquarium together with other small peaceful fishes, but you can better keep them in an aquarium that is set up especially for dwarfcichlids.  A male forms a harem and as a result, should be kept in a ration of one male to every three or four females. Males defend a large territory in which several females may guard their own brood. The aquarium should be set up with stones, driftwood and roots, and on the sides and background densely planted, because they need hiding places.

You should feed them live food.  They barely accept dry food.

Breeding is not difficult.  Up to 70 eggs are laid in a cave and fertilized.  The female takes care of the fry and the male defends the territory.  After hatching the young fishes are moved to a pit by the female.  When they are swimming free you can feed them with baby brine shrimp.
