Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Colombia, Venezuela
Length : 7,5 cm - 3"
Min.length aquarium : 80 cm - 30"
English name : Redstripe Dwarf Cichlid
Peaceful but territorial fish that can be kept as a couple.  In bigger tanks you can keep more males and females.  The aquarium should be set up with stones, driftwood and roots, and on the sides and background densely planted, because they need hiding places. When you keep some small fishes in the upper water layers they are less shy.  The substrate should be dark and the light dimmed to bring out the colours of this fish.

You should feed the fish with live food.  They barely accept dry food.

Breeding is not easy.  The water should be extremely soft and acid.  Up to 90 eggs are laid and fertilized in a cave.  The female takes care of the fry and the male defends the territory.  When the young fishes are swimming free you can feed them with baby brine shrimp.
