English name : Uaupes River Dwarf Cichlid
Peaceful dwarf (only in breeding times the males are aggressive to each other) , that can be kept in a community aquarium with other small and peaceful fishes in the upper areas.  They need a large aquarium.  When the aquarium is too small they are fighting regularly.  You should keep a group of unrelated juveniles to sexual maturity and allow them to pair off.  The tank should be planted on the sides and background and must be large and have plenty of caves and nooks to hide in.  You can use driftwood and stones.

You should give them small live food for instance Artemia.  Frozen food is accepted after habituation.  They barely accept dry food.

Breeding is very difficult.  Only a good matching couple will raise a nest when the water quality is right (very soft and acid). When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with very fine infusoria and some times later with baby brine shrimp.
