Origin : Lake Malawi
Length : 25 cm - 10"
Min. length aquarium : 200 cm - 80"
English name : Christy's Cichlid
This fish only is suited for a large aquarium.  It is possible to keep them together with other large fishes from Lake Malawi.  Fishes that are too small are eaten because they think it is food.  The aquarium should be decorated with  substrate of fine gravel and a lot of rocks that form caves and crevices.  A territory is made during breeding times.

You should give them powerful live food such as small fishes and shrimp.

When the aquarium is large enough breeding is not difficult.  Immediately after laying her eggs the female takes the eggs in her mouth.  They are fertilized with the dummy egg method.  After 3 weeks the young fishes leave the mouth of the mother for the first time, but when there is danger they return for several weeks.  When they are large enough they leave the mother.
