Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Lake Malawi
Length : 11 cm - 4"
Min.length aquarium : 100 cm - 40"
Males of this fish are very aggressive to each other.  It is recommendable to keep one male and several females.  A territory is made.  The aquarium should be set up with stones and rocks to create holes and hiding places. In the middle there should be enough free swimming space.  The substrate should be sandy.  Plants should be hard and anchored very well.

You should give them live food such as insect larvae and waterflees.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding is easy.  They are mouth breeders.  The eggs are laid on a stone and after that the female takes the eggs in the mouth immediately.  They are fertilized by the male using the dummy-egg method.  After 3 weeks the young fishes leave the mouth of the mother.  You can raise them with Artemia-nauplii.
