Peaceful, lively schooling fish that can be kept together
with other barbs. The aquarium should be planted
densely on the sides and background. In the middle you
should leave enough free swimming space.
The light should be dimmed by using floating plants and the
substrate should be dark. When the light is not dimmed
the fishes get very shy and they hide between the plants.
They are omnivorous. You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. A part of the food should be vegetable. Breeding is not difficult. In the early morning the eggs are laid and fertilized between the roots of floating plants or between fine leaved plants. After spawning the parents should be removed. After 24 hours the eggs hatch and after 7 days the young fishes are swimming free. You can raise them with fine infusoria and a few days later with Artemia-nauplii. |
