Peaceful, lively schooling fish that can be kept in a
community aquarium together with other peaceful fishes.
The aquarium should be placed on a sunny spot and planted
densely on the sides and background. They need a lot
of free swimming space. A dark substrate is
appreciated. On the picture is a breeding form of
P. semifasciolatus,
P. schuberti. They are omnivorous. You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. Breeding is easy. In the early morning sun up to 300 eggs are laid and fertilized between the plants. Immediately after spawning the parents should be removed because they eat their own eggs. After 30-36 hours the eggs hatch. When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with baby brine shrimp. |
