Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Equador
Length : 10 cm - 4"
Min.length aquarium : 100 cm - 40"
This cichlid is peaceful but rather shy.  You should keep them as a pair.  The aquarium should be set up with plants, driftwood and roots because they need hiding places.  A territory is made.

They are omnivorous.  You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food.

Breeding is not difficult.  The eggs are laid on a substrate and fertilized.  After hatching the parents take the larvae in their mouth.  When the young fishes are swimming free they leave the mouth of the parents and then they have to take care of themselves.  You can raise them with Artemia-nauplii.
