Peaceful schooling fish for the upper water layers.
They are fast swimmers that need a lot of free swimming
space. They are very sensitive for white spot disease.
Before putting them in a community aquarium it is wise to
put them in a separate tank for a few weeks. After
that you can habituate them slowly to the new water.
They like a very strong running of the water so you should
use a strong filter. The aquarium should be well
covered because they are very good jumpers. You can feed them with powerful live food such as insect larvae and fruit flies. Breeding is easy. In a darkened aquarium the eggs are laid and fertilized between floating plants. After spawning the parents should be removed. The eggs sink to the bottom. After 30 hours the eggs hatch and 5 days later the young fishes are swimming free. You can raise them with very fine infusoria and after a week with Artemia-nauplii. |
