To other fishes they are peaceful but to each other they are very intolerant.  You should keep them as a pair.  You should set up the aquarium with driftwood, toots and stones because they need a lot of hiding places.  You should leave enough free swimming space.  Because they dig in the substrate it is necessary to anchor plants very well if you use them.  Floating plants can be used as well.  A territory is made.  A regular changing of the water is necessary.

You should give them live food.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding is easy.  On a careful cleaned flat stone or leaf up to 500 eggs are laid and fertilized.  Both parents care for the fry very intensive.  After 4-5 days the eggs hatch.  When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with baby brine shrimp.
