Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Guyana
Length : 15 cm - 6"
Min. length aquarium : 140 cm - 55"
English name Keyhole Cichlid
Very peaceful cichlid that you should keep as a pair.  You can keep them together with other peaceful fishes.  The aquarium should be set up with driftwood, roots and stones that make hiding places.  Some hard plants can be used for decoration as well.  You should leave enough free swimming space.  They hardly dig in the substrate.

You should give them live food.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding is not difficult.  Up to 300 eggs are laid and fertilized on a previously cleaned stone.  Both parents take care of the fry very intensive.  When the young fishes are swimming free you can feed them baby brine shrimp.  The parents care for the young sometimes for six months.
