Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Lake Malawi
Length : 15 cm - 6"
Min. length aquarium : 150 cm - 60"
English name : Chrysonotus Cichlid
Rather calm, peaceful fish.  You should keep one male together with several females.  The aquarium should be set up with stones and rocks that form caves and crevices. In the middle you should leave enough free swimming space.  Plants cannot be used because they think it is food.  A territory is made during breeding time.

They are omnivorous.  You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food.  A part of the food should be vegetable.  In their natural habitat they feed on zooplankton.

Breeding is rather easy.  When the eggs are laid and fertilized the female takes them in her mouth.  The male does not care anymore for them.  After 3 weeks the young fishes leave the mouth of the mother.  When there are enough hiding places a lot of young fishes grow without problems.
