Family : Lebiasinidae
Origin : Amazon
Length : 15 cm - 6"
Min. length aquarium : 125 cm - 50"
English names : Red-Spotted Characin, Red-Spotted Copeina, Redspotted Tetra
Outside breeding times this is a rather peaceful fish that can be kept together very well with other fish that are not too small.  Somewhat dark water brings out the colours of the fish, so it is wise to use a peat filter.  The aquarium can be planted on the sides and background.  In the middle you should leave enough free swimming space.

They are omnivorous.  You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food.

Breeding is not easy.  Up to 2500 eggs are laid and fertilized in a pit.  After spawning the female should be removed.   The male guards the eggs.  When the young fishes are swimming free the male should be removed as well.
