Peaceful bottom dweller that should be kept in a school.
Because they search their food in the substrate it should be
very sandy and their tender barbels are easily damaged.
The aquarium should be well planted. You can keep him
together with other peaceful fishes in a community aquarium
or a Amazon biotope aquarium. They are omnivorous and they eat all they can find from the bottom of the aquarium. They clean the leftovers of other fishes. Breeding is difficult. There are some breeding results known after a large changing of the water (75%) with cooler water. A small amount of eggs are laid between fine leaved plants. After 3 days the eggs hatch and another 2 days later the young fishes are swimming free. You can feed them with very fine infusoria. |
