Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Brazil, Rio Tocantins
Length : 7 cm - 2"
Min. length aquarium : 80 cm - 25"
English name : Dwarf Green Pike
The male of this fish are very aggressive to each other.  When they defend their fry they even attack larger cichlids.  The aquarium should be set up with driftwood, roots and stones that create holes and crevices.  You can use plants for decoration as well.  In their natural habitat they live in rapids, so a strong filter is recommended.  They can be kept in harder water as well.

In the wild they eat invertebrates, but in the aquarium you can feed them with Artemia, mosquito larvae and worms.  Frozen, and even dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding in the aquarium is difficult.  They are cave spawners and not much breeding reports are available.
