Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Costa Rica
Length : 12 cm - 5"
Min. length aquarium : 120 cm - 50"
Relative peaceful fish that can be kept together with other peaceful cichlids and characins.  The aquarium should be set up with stones, driftwood and roots.  On the sides and background you can use some hard plants for decoration.  A territory is made.

They are omnivorous.  You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food.

Breeding is rather easy.  At a somewhat higher temperature the eggs are laid and fertilized on a flat stone.  After that the eggs often are hidden in a cave.  Both parents care for the fry very intense.  After 3 days the eggs hatch and another 4 days later the young fishes are swimming free.  They can be raised with baby brine shrimp and a few days later with small water flees.
