This species is not suited for every community aquarium.  You only can keep them in an aquarium that is large enough together with calm, large fishes from the lower waterlayers.  The aquarium should be planted densely on the sides and background that make hiding places.  Some driftwood and roots can be used for decoration as well.  A dark substrate, a dimmed light and some floating plants are appreciated.  They are very sensitive for diseases.  You should change the water very regularly with small amounts.

You should give them live food such as mosquito larvae and earthworms.  Dry food is accepted as well.

About breeding in the aquarium not much is known.
