Peaceful schooling fish that can be kept in a community aquarium together with other small peaceful fishes.  This fish also can be kept as a pair.  The tank should be well-planted on the sides and background and have a dark gravel substrate.  The lighting of the aquarium should be dimmed by a some floating plants to bring out the colours of this fish better.

The fish is omnivorous.  You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food.

Breeding is difficult.  The water should be acid (Ph 5,5-6) and soft (< 5 Gh).  The light should be dimmed.  The eggs are laid in a spawning mop.  After spawning the parents should be removed.  When the young fishes are swimming free you can give them very fine infusoria and ten days later baby brine shrimp.
