This calm and peaceful fish is not easy to keep.  The water should be soft and somewhat acid and regularly changed.  You should feed them small portions of food more times a day.  The temperature should be not too high.  They need a dimmed light and should be kept together with other calm fishes and dwarfcichlids.

You should give them small live food.  Dry food is accepted as well.

Breeding is not easy.  The breeding aquarium should be very clean with soft, acid water.  For spawning substrate you can use perlonwool. The aquarium should be darkened.  After spawning the parents should be removed.  After 5 days the young fishes are swimming free.  You can raise them with baby brine shrimp.
