Family : Melanotaeniidae
Origin : Australia, South New Guinea
Length : 7 cm - 3"
Min.length aquarium : 80 cm - 30"
English name : Macculloch's Rainbowfish
Peaceful and active schooling fish in many different colour varieties.  The aquarium should be planted well on the sides and background.  In the middle you should leave enough free swimming space.  They don't care much about the water quality.

They are omnivorous.  You can give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food.  The food should be small.

Breeding is easy.  After a large changing of the water (about 40%) they lay and fertilize their eggs between fine leaved plants every morning.  When the first eggs hatch (after 7-10 days) you should remove the parents because they think it is food.  When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with fine crushed dry food.
