Family : Chaeacidae
Origin : Venezuela
Length : 6 cm - 2.5"
Min.length aquarium : 80 cm - 30"
English name : Diamond Tetra
Peaceful schooling fish that likes a good water quality.  The water should be soft, because they don't get very old in hard water.  The aquarium should be well planted.  The substrate should be dark and the light dimmed by using floating plants to bring out the colours of the fish.  A peat filter is recommendable.

This fish prefers live food, but he accepts dry food occasionally.

Breeding is easy in soft and acid water.  Use some cotton-wool for spawning.  The aquarium should be darkened and the breeding couple must be fed well.  After spawning the parents should be removed.  After 3 days the eggs hatch and another 2 days later the young fishes are swimming free.  You can feed them small infusoria and a few days later Artemia-nauplii.
