You can keep this rapacious fish together only with larger
fishes. The aquarium should be set up with roots and
driftwood and large-leaved plants to create hiding places.
They eat live food like fishes and black mosquito larvae.
They are robbers and they need daily live food equal to their
own weight.
Breeding is not easy. In a separate aquarium the
eggs are attached to a cleaned leave. After spawning the
female will be chased by the male, and she should be removed.
The male takes care of the eggs. After 4 days the
eggs hatch. The male should be removed as well.
You can raise the young fishes with Artemia-nauplii. The
young grow at different rates and periodically must be
sorted according to size to prevent cannibalism.
