Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador
Length : 30 cm - 12"
Min. length aquarium : 250 cm - 100"
English name : False Yellowjacket Cichlid

This fish is easy to keep, but he is very large so he needs a lot of space.  He makes a large territory.  You should keep them as a pair. Pairing off is not easy but a good matching couple stay together outside breeding time.  The aquarium should be set up with stones, driftwood and roots.  Plants cannot be used because they dig a lot in the substrate.  They are large eaters, so a good filter is necessary.

They are omnivorous.  You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food.

Breeding is not difficult with a good matching couple.  Up to 2000 eggs are laid and fertilized.  The female cares for the fry.  When the eggs are hatched the larvae are brought to a breeding pit.  When the young fishes are swimming free both parents care for them very intensive.  You can raise them with baby brine shrimp.
