Active and peaceful schooling fish that needs a large free
swimming area. The aquarium should be well planted on the
sides and the background. Use some floating plants as well
to provide areas of shade. The substrate should be dark to
bring out the colours of this fish. The fish is suited for
the community aquarium. The fish is omnivorous. You should give a variety of live, frozen and dry food. Breeding is not easy. The aquarium should be long with a dark substrate. The water must be soft (Gh 5-8) and acid (Ph 6-6,5). Before spawning the fishes are chasing each other. The eggs are laid and fertilized between the plants. After spawning the parents should be removed. The young fishes hatch after 24 hours. When they are swimming free you can feed them with fine infusoria and a few days later with baby brine shrimp. |
