Peaceful fish but during breeding time they become very
aggressive to species of their own kind and other species as
well. The aquarium should be planted densely on the
sides and background and set up with driftwood, roots and
stones that form hiding-places and caves. You need a
good filter. You should add some seasalt. (1 spoon at
10 liters of water) You should give them live food. A large part of the food should be vegetable. When you don't give them vegetable food they start eating plants. Frozen and dry food are accepted as well. Breeding is not difficult. Up to 150 eggs are laid and fertilized in a breeding pit. After that the male takes the eggs in his mouth. After 6 days the eggs hatch and another 7 days later they leave the mouth for the first (and last) time. They are not admitted anymore. You can raise them with baby brine shrimp and sifted Cyclops. |
