During breeding time a small territory is made, outside that
period they are rather peaceful. The aquarium can be
planted normally and set up with stones, driftwood and roots
that make hiding places and borders of a territory.
You should keep them in a group of 8 in a large aquarium.
A strong filter and a regular changing of the water are
appreciated. A dimmed light make them less shy. They are omnivorous. You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. Breeding is rather easy. Up to 300 eggs are laid and fertilized on a substrate. After 2 days the eggs hatch and another 5 days later the young fishes are swimming free. Both parents care for the fry for 3 weeks very intensive. The male defends the territory primarily. You can raise the young fishes with baby brine shrimp and fine crushed dry food. |
