Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Guatemala
Length : 35 cm - 14"
Min. length aquarium : 250 cm - 100"
This large, lively fish is rather aggressive to species of their own kind.  You should keep them together with other large cichlids and catfish, so the aggression can be divided.  The aquarium should be set up with stones, driftwood and roots that make hiding places.  A territory is made.  A large filter and a regular changing of the water are recommended.

They are omnivorous and they eat a lot.  You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food.  A large part of the food should be vegetable such as spinach and lettuce.

Breeding is not easy.  You have the best results with a young couple.  They spawn on an open substrate.  Both parents care for the fry.
