Generally speaking this is a rather peaceful fish.  Only in breeding period there is some aggression against other inhabitants.  You should not keep the fish in a tank that is too small.  The tank should be set up with stones and driftwood because the fish requires some hideouts.  Well anchored plants also can be used.

The fish is omnivorous.  Live and frozen food of all kind are accepted.

Breeding is not so easy.  Males are very choosy for a partner.  Best is to let them choose from a group.  When a couple is formed 200 - 300 eggs are laid on a flat substrate.  Both parents take care of the fry.  After 2 - 3 days the eggs hatch and another 2 days later the young are swimming free.  Then you can feed them newly-hatched brine shrimp.
