Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Nicaragua
Length : 25 cm - 10"
Min.length aquarium : 200 cm - 80"
English name : Red Devil
This fish is rather aggressive.  You can not keep them with smaller fish.  You should set up the aquarium with stones and driftwood because you need a lot of hiding places. Plants cannot be used as a decoration.  A powerful filter and a frequent changing of the water is necessary.

They are omnivorous.  You should give them a great variety of live and frozen food.  They are very greedy.

Breeding is rather easy.  600 - 700 eggs are laid on a substrate and fertilized.  The female takes care after the eggs while the male guards the territory.  After 3 days the eggs hatch and the fry will be transported to a pit. Another 5 - 7 days the young fishes are swimming on their own.  You can feed them with new hatched baby brine shrimp.  Sometimes the fry feed on a milky secretion produced by gland cells in the parents skin.
