This territorial fish that should be kept as a couple,
is usually peaceful when kept with other cichlids. The
tank should have a sandy bottom. Provide hiding places
with rocks, driftwood and roots. Open swimming areas are
necessary. Because the fish digs during mating times
plants cannot be used as decoration. The fish is omnivorous and he prefers worms. Frozen and dry food is accepted as well. Breeding is easy. Up to 500 eggs are laid in a pit and fertilized. After 2 days the eggs hatch and another 6 days later the youngsters swim free. Both parents take care of the fry. You can start feeding with baby brine shrimp and a few days later with fine dry food. |
