These fishes are very aggressive to each other and during breeding time they are aggressive to other fishes as well.  The aquarium should be set up with stones, driftwood and roots that form caves and hiding places.  At some places you can use a well anchored big plant.  You should use some floating plants to dim the light.  To let them breed is is necessary to change 50 % of the water.

He is omnivorous.  You can give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food.

Breeding is not difficult.  More than 500 eggs are laid and fertilized on a flat vertical stone or driftwood.  The female takes care of the fry and the male defends the territory.  At a temperature of 27° C ( 81°F ) the eggs hatch after 3 days.  Now the male takes care of the fry as well.  When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with baby brine shrimp and later with fine crushed dry food.
