Peaceful schooling fish that should be kept in a rather large aquarium.  The aquarium should be set up with driftwood, stones and some hard plants.  Soft plants cannot be used because they are eaten.

They are omnivorous but they prefer vegetable food such as spinach and lettuce.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding is not easy and only possible in a large aquarium of at least 600 liters.  At a temperature of 22-30°C (72-86°F) up to 2000 eggs are laid and fertilized.  Immediately after spawning the parents should be removed.  After 6 days the young fishes are swimming free.  You can raise them with baby brine shrimp and fine crushed dry food.
