Peaceful cichlid that makes a territory (even outside
breeding time). You can keep them together with other
peaceful fishes. The aquarium should be set up with
stones and driftwood that make hiding places. On the
sides and background you should plant the aquarium densely.
In the middle you should leave a lot of free swimming space.
A dark substrate brings out the colours of the fish. A
regular changing of the water is necessary.
You should give them powerful live food. Dry food is accepted as well. Breeding is easy with a good matching couple. Up to 150 eggs are laid and fertilized. After that the female takes the eggs in her mouth. The female retires in the territory and is defended by the male. After a week the fry is given to the male. Now he has the young in his mouth for a week. After that time the young fishes are swimming free, but the parents defend them for a few weeks. You can raise them with baby brine shrimp. |
