Peaceful bottomdweller that should be kept in a school.
The aquarium should be planted densely on the sides and
background. A part of the bottom of the aquarium
should be free and should be sandy because they like to
search after food in it and their tender barbels are easily
damaged. A regular changing of the water is appreciated. They are omnivorous. You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. They search for food on the bottom mainly. Breeding is not easy. After a large changing of the water with cooler water up to 250 eggs are laid and fertilized. Mostly they are stuck against the sides of the aquarium. After spawning it is wise to remove the parents because it is possible they eat the eggs. After 3 days the eggs hatch. When the young fishes are swimming free you can feed them very fine infusoria and some days later with baby brine shrimp and micro-eels. |
