Peaceful bottomdweller that you should keep in a school of
at least 10 fishes. This species needs a lot of free
swimming space. The aquarium should be planted on the
sides and background. A large part of the bottom of
the aquarium should be free and should be sandy because they
like to search after food in it and their tender barbels are
easily damaged. They are very sensitive for nitrate.
A regular changing of the water is necessary. This
fish frequently is mixed up with
Corydoras
sterbai.
They are omnivorous, but they prefer insects that live in the substrate. Dry food is accepted as well. Breeding is not difficult. For breeding it is wise to use 1-2 males and 3-5 females. After a large changing of the water the eggs are laid and fertilized. The female takes the fertilized eggs between her anal fins and sticks them to a clean substrate. When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with very small live food such as infusoria and some days later with baby brine shrimp. |
