You should keep this rather peaceful fish as a pair.  Only during breeding times they are somewhat aggressive and then they dig in the substrate.  The aquarium should be set up with rocks, driftwood and roots that make caves and hiding places.  You can use some hard, well anchored plants and some floating plants as well for decoration.  A territory is made.

You should give them live food.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.  Young animals need  vegetable food.

Breeding is easy.  Up to 300 eggs are laid and fertilized on a stone or a leaf of a plant.  When the eggs are hatched the female removes the fry to a breeding pit.  Some days later the male cares for the fry as well.  You can raise the young fishes with baby brine shrimp and some days later with fine crushed (vegetable) dry food.
