Fairly peaceful fish that makes a territory. The
aquarium should be set up with stones and rocks that form
caves and crevices where they can hide. The rocks should be
firmly anchored. Some plants also can be used as
decoration but are not necessary. The substrate should
be sandy. They barely dig in the substrate.
You should give them large live food such as lobster and small fishes. Breeding is easy. Up to 50 eggs are laid in a cave. After the male has fertilized the eggs the female takes them in her mouth. After hatching the young fishes are protected by the female during 6 weeks. When they are in danger she takes the young fishes in her mouth again. You can raise the young fishes with baby brine shrimp. They grow quickly. |
