This fish should be kept in a large school of at least 10
fishes together with other cichlids of Lake Tanganyika that
live near the bottom of the lake such as shell dwellers and
Xenotilapia. The aquarium should be decorated with a
substrate of fine gravel and a lot of rocks and stones that
form caves and crevices. Hard plants can be used for
decoration as well. Males defend a small spawning
territory. You should give them small live food such as water flees and baby brine shrimp. A part of the food should be vegetable. Breeding is rather easy. The eggs are laid on a substrate and then fertilized by the male. Immediately after that the female takes the eggs in her mouth. After a month the young fishes leave the mouth of the mother. They can be raised with baby brine shrimp. |
