You should keep this peaceful fish in a large school in a
community aquarium. If you don't do that they get pale
and shy. The aquarium should be planted densely on the
sides and background. In the middle you should leave a
lot of free swimming space.
They are omnivorous. You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. A part of the food should be vegetable. Breeding is not difficult. A large aquarium should be set up with a substrate of marbles and some fine leaved plants. In the morning sun and at a temperature of 24-25°C (75-77°F) every mating 5-20 eggs are laid and fertilized between the plants up to totally 200-300 eggs. After spawning the parents should be removed immediately. The eggs hatch after 1-2 days. When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with Artemia-nauplii and fine crushed dry food. They grow very fast. |
