Peaceful fish that you can keep in a small group in a community aquarium.  They are critically endangered in the wild and are listed on the latest IUCN Redlist for fishes. The trade has restricted exports to very low levels to protect the population  The species is now being bred for the aquarium trade.  The aquarium should be planted densely on the sides and background.  In the middle you should leave enough free swimming space.  You need a powerful filter for a strong waterflow.

They are insect eaters.  You should feed them with small insects that float on the water surface such as fruitflies.

Breeding is not difficult.  In a breeding aquarium with some fine leaved plants and a layer of marbles up to 200 eggs are laid and fertilized.  After spawning the parents should be removed.  Depending on temperature the eggs hatch after 24-48 hours.  A few days later the young fishes are swimming free.  You can raise them with infusoria and later with fine crushed dry food.
