This peaceful cichlid should be kept as a pair.  They don't dig in the substrate that should be sandy.  The aquarium should be set up with plants, driftwood, roots and stones.  The animals are very sensitive for changing of the water and sweet water.  It is recommended to add seasalt.  (1-2 teaspoons at 10 liters of water).

They prefer live food and algae.  Dry food is accepted as well.

Breeding is easy when you have the right water conditions.  The water should be consist of 5% seawater.  After intensive cleaning 200-300 eggs are laid and fertilized on a stone.  When the eggs are hatched the parents remove the larvae to a breeding pit.  Both parents care for the fry a long period.
