Rather peaceful fish that can be kept together with other peaceful (mbuna) species from Lake Malawi. The aquarium should be decorated with a lot of rocks and stones that form caves and crevices. You can use some plants for decoration as well. It is wise to keep one male and several females. They are omnivorous. You should given them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. Breeding is rather easy. After the eggs are laid they are taken in the mouth by the female immediately. They are fertilized by the male using the dummy egg method. After that the female retires between the rocks. After 3 weeks the young fishes leave the mouth for the first time. You can raise them with baby brine shrimp. |
