Peaceful, lively fish that best can be kept in a special aquarium, but you can keep them in a community aquarium without large problems as well.  The aquarium should be planted on the sides and background.  A dimmed light by using floating plants and a dark substrate are appreciated.  A powerful filter and a regular changing of the water are necessary.

They are omnivorous and a large part of the food should be vegetable such as algae.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding is rather easy.  They are viviparous.  Every 2 months about 40 young fishes are born.  Parents don't trouble their young.  You can raise them with baby brine shrimp and fine crushed dry food.
