You should keep this fish as a pair because they are very intolerant and aggressive to each other.  The best way to have a good matching couple is to raise a group of about 6 unrelated juveniles to sexual maturity and allow them to pair off. The best pair should be chosen and other pairs should be removed. The aquarium should be decorated with a lot of rocks and stones  that form caves and crevices. Some hard plants such as Vallisneria can be used as well.  A territory is made and defended against intruders.

You should give them live food.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding is rather easy.  20-50 eggs are laid and fertilized in a cave.  When the young fishes are swimming free the parents don't care for them anymore, but they are rather safe because they live in the neighbourhood of the territory.  The smallest are somewhat sensitive for a large changing of the water.
