Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Lake Malawi
Length : 8 cm - 3"
Min. length aquarium : 80 cm - 30"
One of the smaller cichlids from Lake Malawi that is rather easy to keep.  The aquarium should be set op with a lot of rocks and stones that form caves and crevices. Plants can be used for decoration as well.  To divide aggression is it wise to keep more males and for each male several females.  A strong filter and a regular changing of the water (every 2 weeks about 20 %), are appreciated.

They are omnivorous.  A large part of the food should be vegetable.  You should not give them red mosquito larvae because they easy get enteritis.

Breeding is rather easy.  20-30 eggs are laid.  Immediately after that the female takes the eggs in her mouth.  They are fertilized by the male using the dummy egg method.  After 3 week the young fishes leave the mouth of the mother and they have to care for them selves.  You can raise them with baby brine shrimp and fine crushed dry food.
