This fish is rather aggressive during breeding times.
It is wise to keep one male together with several females to
divide that aggression. The aquarium should be
decorated with a lot of rocks and stones that form caves and
crevices. A regular changing of the water and a strong
filter are appreciated.
They are omnivorous. You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. A large part of the food should be vegetable such as algae. Breeding is rather easy. Up to 60 eggs are laid. Immediately after that the female takes the eggs in her mouth. They are fertilized by the male using the dummy egg method. The female hides between the rocks. After 3 weeks the young fishes leave the mouth of the mother. You can raise the young fishes with baby brine shrimp. |
