| Rather peaceful fish, only in breeding time he is somewhat
aggressive.  The aquarium should be planted with some
hard plants that are well anchored.  The substrate
should be sandy.  You should leave enough free swimming
space.  It is wise to create a period of lower
                    temperatures (about 12°C - 54°F).  That  is
beneficial for breeding.  They even can sustain much
lower temperatures (4°C- 40°F). They are omnivorous. You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. Breeding is rather easy. The male digs a nest with a diameter of about 30 cm (12"). 2000 -3000 eggs are laid and fertilized in the nest. After spawning the female should be removed, because the male will kill her. The male guards the fry until they hatch and some days after that. You can feed the young with baby brine shrimp. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
