| Very intolerant fish to species of their own kind and to
other species as well.  The aquarium should be set up
with stones and rocks to create crevices and caves because
they need hiding places.  You should keep one male
together with several females.  You also can use plants for
decoration.  The substrate should be sandy. They are omnivorous but they prefer live food. Beefheart and large flakes of dry food are accepted as well. Breeding is easy. 40-70 eggs are laid. The female takes the eggs in the mouth immediately. They are fertilized by the male using the dummy egg method. After about three weeks the young fishes are released. You can raise them with baby brine shrimp.
