Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Lake Malawi
Length : 13 cm - 5"
Min. length aquarium : 120 cm - 45"
This fish is very intolerant to species of their own kind and to other species as well.  You should keep one male together with several females.  The aquarium should be decorated with a lot of rocks and stones that form caves and crevices. Some hard plants can be used for decoration as well.

They are omnivorous, but they prefer live food and algae.  If you don't give them enough vegetable food, plants are eaten.

Breeding is easy.  Up to 60 eggs are laid.  After that the female takes the eggs in her mouth immediately.  The eggs are fertilized by the male using the dummy egg method.  During 8 days they stay in the mouth of the female and after that they swim free.
